Self-Adhesive Substrates

Environmental responsibility at County Labels is a practised philosophy.  That is why we exclusively use solvent free adhesives and label paper made from chlorine-free bleached cellulose.  In addition we solely employ the use of solvent-free silicone coated liners.

The materials used in manufacturing labels for our clients are not subject to a registration obligation with REACH, however the supplier has been chosen for their forward thinking and proactive approach to Environmental concerns in complying with the standard.  All paper products are ECF (Elemental Chlorine-Free) and are made out of wood from managed, renewable sources.  None of our paper products originate form APP (Asian Pulp & Paper)

Internal Policy & Practices

  1. We deliver labels in reusable totes in place of cardboard wherever practical and accepted by the client.
  2. Where the use of cardboard is unavoidable, we do choose to use board with a significant recycled fabric levels.
  3. All inks purchased by County Labels conform to ROHS (restriction of hazardous substances) recommendations and limit to trace the use of heavy metals.
  4. Wherever possible we take deliveries of raw material direct from the manufacturers themselves, missing out additional distribution networks.
  5. All our manufacturing waste is separated into type and sent to appropriate recycling companies.  This includes plastic and cardboard waste.
  6. All our business stationary is now sent by email, reducing paper waste and eliminating any carbon impact accrued by sending such items in the post as it was until recently.
  7. Within our hotfoil processes we have replaced using glue to secure plates in place to a screw down mechanism. Although this had a significant start-up cost, it has enabled us to remove solvent based glue from use in our premises.
  8. We have purchased a large waste compactor, reducing the number of visits required to remove waste and thus reducing our carbon footprint further.
  9. Excess pallets no longer go to landfill, we have a secure area for storing them and once we have a significant volume, we have a supplier who will arrange for their collection and redistribution into the pallet network.
  10. County Labels use no materials which require biological monitoring of staff during use, such as solvents like MEK and MIBK, or isocyanates.
  11. We utilize a “Back to Black” ink re-cycling policy for waste and redundant inks.
